In most RPGs that work with time, players can expect an element of waiting, although that is typically met with being able to speed up the process. This is not the case for Deadly Premonition 2 unless players do a few things before. Speeding up time can help players get to those important quests and go further in this fantastic game.
Smoke Some Cigarettes
While smoking isn’t the best thing to do in the real world, it’s actually a wonderful way to pass the time in Deadly Premonition 2. Simply head to a vendor and purchase some cigarettes, then pull one out and start smoking it. This will speed up the time for around an hour depending on the product’s strength, as opposed to the first game where it let players go for as long as they wanted.
The amount of time skipped does depend on a few elements. Firstly, the strength of the cigarette itself has an impact on how quickly time passes in this survival game. With stronger cigarettes, the time will go by in hours rather than minutes. There is also the notion that the players will need to sleep or eat before smoking, so make sure York is adequately fed and rested before trying this out.
Go To Sleep In The Hotel
Sleeping is perhaps one of the most effective ways of passing time in Deadly Premonition 2, and is also one of the safest and the simplest. Simply head back to the hotel and get some rest. However, while sleeping may be the most effective, it’s undeniably one of the most boring ways to pass time, and there are other ways players can waste some time in a more rewarding way. That being said, it’s also one of the quicker ways. Players can rely on it as a quick, safe way to recoup and plan out York’s next moves.

Ultimately, if players have a long time to wait or if they just feel like poor York needs a break, sending him up to his hotel room is one of the best ways to kill some time. Sleeping through the night should get the player closer to completing that frustrating time-sensitive quest line.
Camping On The Street
Camping out in Deadly Premonition 2 is essentially just riskier hotel sleeping. Beginners are advised to stay near the hotel for the first part of the game, but if players find themselves in a tight spot far away from the safety of the hotel, there’s always the option to try camping out.
It might not be as safe or as comfortable as the hotel, but it will do the job and will help pass a decent amount of time when needed. However, it’s worth planning ahead. Players should make sure that they have a ready supply of sleeping bags on their person, as sleeping outside will require one each time. The player should also think about making a campfire, since failing to provide one has the chance to make York unwell as he sleeps due to the cold.
Complete Different Side Quests
Passing the time in Deadly Premonition 2 doesn’t have to feel like a waiting game. The player can always explore the world and see what it has to offer while waiting for a quest to begin or continue. Players will find an abundance of side quests, which are all likely to grant York some useful loot or times they were looking for.

Ultimately, there are so many entertaining quests that players shouldn’t really be waiting around unless that is the only quest they choose to complete at that time. Look around, find a side quest, and enjoy the fantastic storylines this game has to offer, particularly the ones that hide in the shadows for only the true completionists to find.
