Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait long to unravel Deadly Premonition 2’s secrets, as today Nintendo’s social media channels have released a stylish teaser revealing the game’s release date of July 10th. This comes after the game’s famed director Hidetaka ‘Swery65’ Suehiro hinted at impending news for the title last week.

Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise is being touted as both a prequel and a sequel to the 2010 original, as the game will be split into two stories with one set in 2005 following the original game’s protagonist Francis York Morgan as he investigates a string of serial murders in Lá Carre, a small town in New Orleans, while the other follows two different FBI agents named Jones and Davis investigating the same case in present-day Boston. The game will also feature an open world like the original, with the option to traverse it via a customizable skateboard, along with mini-games such as bowling, skateboard challenges and more.

Despite suddenly appearing 10 years after the release of the original, Swery and the team at Toybox seem to be pulling out all the stops to make Deadly Premonition 2 the sequel fans have always wanted. The story synopsis even implies that the segments featuring Francis York Morgan will tie into the scenes added to the PlayStation 3 Director’s Cut of the original game, in which York references a murder mystery case he was investigating in New Orleans. What makes this strange, however, is the fact that the version released on Nintendo Switch last year, Deadly Premonition: Origins, was not the Director’s Cut but instead a port of the original Xbox 360 release.

Newcomers itching to jump into Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise will be pleased to hear that the Deadly Premonition: Origins port for Nintendo Switch is currently 50% off on the Nintendo eShop until May 15th. The sequel will be released on Nintendo Switch exclusively, however Rising Star Games have hinted at a release on other platforms eventually. Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise will release for a MSRP of $49.99 both physically and digitally on the Nintendo eShop. The game is currently available to pre-order and pre-load digitally.

Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise will release on July 10th 2020.
