One big change that Dead Space fans can look forward to in the remake is the complete lack of loading screens. Thanks to the SSDs in the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles, the Dead Space remake will have zero loading screens, which should allow for increased immersion. This is one of the advantages of the Dead Space remake being a next-gen only game, as it will be able to take full advantage of the new consoles.

There will be other changes in the Dead Space remake as well. While specifics aren’t available at this time, it’s been suggested that the zero-gravity sections from Dead Space 2 will make an appearance in the remake. The Dead Space remake will also have some story tweaks so that plot points introduced later in the series appear a bit earlier in the narrative.
The Dead Space remake will be taking the zero-gravity from Dead Space 2, but it’s also learning from its sequels in other ways. As some may recall, Dead Space 3 controversially had microtransactions, a decision that was met with widespread criticism at the time of its original release. It’s already been confirmed that the Dead Space remake will not have microtransactions, so fans don’t have to worry about them worming their way into the game.
Everything that’s been revealed about the game since the Dead Space remake teaser trailer should sound good to fans, and hopefully they don’t have to wait too long to see more of the game. As it stands, no Dead Space remake gameplay has been revealed so far, and the game’s release date is nowhere in sight. It being a next-gen only game does suggest that fans will have to wait at least a couple of years before they’ll get the chance to play it.
While some fans may be frustrated by the long wait they have ahead of them, other Dead Space enthusiasts are likely happy that a new Dead Space game is coming at all. Here’s hoping it lives up to the high bar set by the original game.
Dead Space is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

However, once EA had confirmed that Dead Space would be coming in January 2023, it has shown off more and more of the horror title. While the remake isn’t seeking to depart too much from the original, it does contain some changes, such as Motive’s new ALIVE system. The ALIVE system in Dead Space will track Isaac’s movement and behaviors in a new way, making his dialogue more labored when he’s just been in combat, for example, or showing his fatigue in different movement animations.

Alongside these new mechanics, another change is coming in the Dead Space remake. As outlined in a recent blog post from EA, where the company outlined how dedicated it was to holding up the legacy of the original Dead Space, it was also unveiled that the remake would not contain any loading screens. Only when a player dies to a Necromorph will they be faced with a loading screen, and for the rest of the game they will be free to explore it at their leisure.
Senior Producer Philippe Ducharme stated that the Ishimura, the ship infested with Necromorphs the player must navigate, is now “fully interconnected.” This, along with a bunch of other new graphical changes to lighting and mechanical alterations to the zero-gravity sections, are made possible thanks to EA’s Frostbite engine, according to Ducharme. Other games have also done away with loading screens, with one notable example being 2018’s God of War, which was also a completely unbroken experience unless the player died.
Ducharme says that the changes being brought in the Dead Space remake go beyond graphical improvements, and that it is a “new and enhanced experience.” While fans will certainly be able to recognize all that they loved from the original game, plenty of additions are being brought in to flesh out the lore and bring a new “kind of depth.” Due to the ALIVE system, there will also be a new level of violence brought into the Dead Space remake, which appears to be similar to the gore and brutality in The Callisto Protocol, a similar sci-fi horror project.
Dead Space releases January 27, 2023, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
