As such, it was no surprise to hear that a sequel was in the works. While very little is still known about Dead Space 2 aside from its inclusion of online multiplayer, every little detail is welcome news. In an interview with Kotaku, Steve Papoutsis, the game’s executive producer, discussed a new addition to the already satisfying strategic dismemberment system from the first game.

Just the thought of this brings back fond memories of flinging saw blades at zombies with the gravity gun in Half-Life 2, except this time, instead of saw blades lying around the environment, you will be flinging your dead enemies’ limbs back at their comrades. While running out of ammo is par for the course in a survival horror game, the ability to be able to utilize the bodies of the dead as secondary weapons is a very welcome addition.

While a release date has yet to be announced, you can expect to see Dead Space 2 disemboweling its way onto the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC sometime in early 2011.

How did you feel about the first game? What are your thoughts on fear and the general scare-factor of games in recent years?
