Such was the case with one gamer who was sad to see their Nintendo DS finally die on them. Rather than throwing the Nintendo DS away or stuffing it into a junk drawer, though, the gamer decided to pay tribute to one of their favorite gaming systems by transforming it into a piece of art.

Redditor Wolve5000 took to the site to share their creation with other gaming fans. In a photo, fans can see the Nintendo DS Lite has been fully dismantled and placed into a shadow box. There, a background is set up to fully detail each piece of the Nintendo DS and what purpose it served in the handheld gaming device. Everything has been laid out to see, including the styluls, wi-fi board, Nintendo DS battery, and even the start and select buttons.
With the Nintendo DS Lite originally launching in 2006, it’s not a huge surprise that the unit would finally lose functionality all these years later. Some in the comments noted that it was probably possible to repair the unit, but Wolve5000 indicated they were actively working on the unit’s screens when the p6 connector was damaged, and that they lack the ability to fix it, so they chose this fitting tribute for the device instead.
Many fans were nostalgic about the device in the comments, talking about the handheld and their gaming experiences. Many mused in particular about the Nintendo DS’ ability to hold onto a charge, like many other Nintendo devices. Some pointed out that they had discovered their own Nintendo DS within their homes months or years after its last use, only to boot it up and find out that it still had battery life. However, others pointed out that even a Nintendo DS’ battery isn’t eternal, and that Wolve5000 should be very careful to ensure that their battery doesn’t eventually swell up and explode or catch fire.
While not every gamer has the capability or interest in making a display like this one, it’s something many gamers can appreciate. While some people would only see a bunch of metal and plastic looking at these separated sections of the Nintendo DS, those components have inspired countless people and kept them entertained for hours on end. Although this particular Nintendo DS’ days have come to an end, the art Wolve5000 has produced will continue to remind them of all the good times they had with the device in the years to come.
