Motion Twin showed off an animated trailer for Dead Cells’ Return to Castlevania DLC during the big showcase, which was similar to past DLC trailers’ style; however, as the trailer went on, viewers can see some of the iconic characters from the Castlevania series, Richter Belmont and Alucard. No actual gameplay was shown during the trailer, but the developers did put up a blog on Steam that goes into more detail on what fans can expect from the Konami collaboration.

First and foremost, the DLC is going to cost players $9.99 when it launches in Q1 of 2023. Q1 is pretty much from January to the end of March, so fans should expect a final release date very soon. The new content does cost a little bit more than previous DLC packs, but Motion Twin explains in the post that the new pricing “reflects the fact that the scope of this DLC is quite a lot bigger than previous DLCs… as well as the inclusion of the Castlevania IP.”
It appears that Dead Cells players won’t actually be playing as Alucard or Richter during the DLC, but there will be 20 outfits to unlock featuring designs for Alucard, Richter, Simon, Mario Renard, Trevor, and even Dracula. Plus, there will be two new biomes, all themed around Dracula’s Castle, giving Dead Cells a total Castlevania makeover.
Players can expect a lot of weapons familiar to the Castlevania franchise, like the Throwing Axe and Holy Water, and there will be Castlevania-themed enemies to fight against too. It’s also worth noting that Dead Cells players will be able to hear over 60 tracks from the Castlevania universe.
With the Netflix Castlevania series seeing critical acclaim since its start in 2017 and the God of War Ragnarok director wanting to make a game in the franchise one day, it may appear that the Konami series is on its way to becoming popular once again. After the new Dead Cells DLC comes out, it would be interesting to see if interest in the Castlevania IP increases; until then, fans will just need to wait and keep making Alucard in Elden Ring’s character creator.
Dead Cells is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. The Castlevania DLC will launch in early 2023.
