The team behind Dead by Daylight are no strangers to hiding clues in plain sight, having previously hinted at Silent Hill collaborating with Dead by Daylight by subtly shaping the number “4” featured as part of the game’s four-year anniversary promotional material in a manner reminiscent of Pyramid Head’s iconic headpiece. As such, lovers of the asymmetrical genre are always eager to pore over any and all new content released by Dead by Daylight’s various social media outlets in the hopes of uncovering information pertaining to future chapters.

When the official Dead by Daylight Twitter account shared an image of an undeveloped Polaroid picture on the day after Christmas, many fans took it as a sign of what was to come for the game in early 2023. Posting the image to Reddit, user A_Bird_survived implored others to help them figure out what it was hinting at. Though many players tried using tools to brighten the image, some pointed out that, due to it being a Polaroid that was yet to develop, it was more likely that further teasers would follow in the future, featuring better-developed versions of the original image. Though no new content is scheduled for Dead by Daylight in the next patch, which will aim to address the unhealthy meta plaguing Dead by Daylight, it is possible it may become relevant further in the future.

Other theories included the possibility of a new Vampire-themed killer, due to vampires typically not showing up in photographs or mirrors, a character from the Fatal Frame series, or a licensed chapter introducing Obscura from The Evil Within 2 to the Dead by Daylight cinematic universe - a terrifying boss who possesses a Polaroid camera in place of a head. However, some fans pointed out the original caption of the tweet, which reads “I tried to take a picture in my locker, but couldn’t figure out how to use the flash…”

With the Dead by Daylight Twitter having been placed into the reliable hands of one of its most iconic survivors, Dwight, for the Christmas season, many of its recent tweets have detailed his ventures throughout the trials during the Dead by Daylight Bone Chill event, where he avoids trouble by hiding in lockers. For some players, the tweet can simply be taken at face value, with Dwight having tried to take an image on his camera while hiding in a locker and the pitch black photograph being the result. Some players, however, remain unconvinced, and think there is more to the image than meets the eye.

Dead by Daylight is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
