Behavior Interactive released Dead by Daylight in 2016, and the asymmetric multiplayer survival horror game immediately became one of the most played and most well-regarded titles within the burgeoning genre previously dominated by older titles like Left 4 Dead 2. In the years since the game’s debut, tons of updates have been made which have improved and added much and even brought licensed crossover content such as Cheryl Mason from Silent Hill and Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil. Behavior Interactive has steadily updated the game’s features, UI, and mechanics resulting in a six-year-old game that still has plenty of mileage left.

In an effort to reduce the significant grind faced particularly by newer players trying to catch up with progression, Behavior Interactive has plans to completely overhaul the perks and prestige systems to be far less time-consuming. Behavior Interactive recognizes that since the game has grown, the grind has also expanded with each new Dead by Daylight chapter. The “teachable” rarity for perks will be removed, with teachable perks becoming tied to prestige. Prestiging a character will unlock all baseline perks for use by every other character without the need for Bloodwebs. Prestiging will also no longer remove perks, items, add-ons, or offerings, and perk slots will remain after prestiging. Prestiging is no longer optional and will occur after purchasing a node from a special Bloodweb.
The Shrine of Secrets is also being reworked and will allow players to purchase perks directly. Purchasing perks in this manner will unlock the Tier 1 versions for all characters, in line with the new way in which prestiging unlocks perks globally. Furthermore, purchasing already unlocked perks will raise their Tier level. A major balance pass is being implemented to shake up the meta surrounding perks, with changes affecting dozens of perks in a variety of nerfs and buffs. Many of the most popular perks for Killers and Survivors will see changes in order to make lesser-used ones more attractive.
While there’s plenty more to come according to Dead by Daylight’s Year 7 Roadmap, this major decrease in the grind should be a welcome change that will help players focus more on enjoying the game and less on the tedious work required to collect perks and formulate a character build.
Dead By Daylight is currently available on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
