Iridescent Shards are a little more difficult to procure, simply because players only earn this in-game currency through XP that is gained during each match, which also goes toward increasing Player Levels. Iridescent Shards are not capped, unlike Bloodpoints, but are earned at a much slower rate, making them an unreliable currency to use, thus incentivizing the purchase of Auric Cells when players wish to buy cosmetics. However, while there are ways to earn Iridescent Shards more reliably, an upcoming event should assist players with earning more instantaneously.

Dead by Daylight has recently announced that its next Double XP weekend will run between July 15 and 19. Double XP should help players earn Iridescent Shards from matches faster, though playing often during this weekend is still encouraged in order for players to make the most out of it. Iridescent Shards go toward a few in-game store items, giving players the opportunity to spend reserved Shards on a select handful of cosmetics instead of purchasing Cells, but Shards are arguably better used toward Dead by Daylight’s Shrine of Secrets.
The Shrine houses four teachable perks, two being killer perks and two survivor perks. These perks are only unlockable with Shards; however, players may have already unlocked them through a character’s Bloodweb in Dead by Daylight, in which case players can purchase it anyway and be repaid with Bloodpoints.
Still, Dead by Daylight players can decide they would like to purchase perks here instead of grinding their way through a character’s Bloodweb to find their teachable perks, so long as they have enough Shards to do so. The only other caveat is that the Shrine typically refreshes weekly, meaning that players may have to wait a while before their desired perks become available to unlock.
That said, it is completely up to each individual player how they would like to spend any of their three in-game currencies in Dead by Daylight. These sorts of ephemeral incentives to play often occur, such as Dead by Daylight’s Blood Hunts, but it is still a wonderful opportunity for players to earn more with less of a grind than there usually is.
Dead By Daylight is currently available on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
