Moreover, thanks to Villains, players can “experience” for themselves horror scenarios involving serial killers and supernatural creatures. After all, Dead by Daylight featured Villains from popular franchises. Players can face Villains such as Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street). As such, who says Dead by Daylight won’t be featuring other popular protagonists? So, if Dead by Daylight plans on featuring iconic horror protagonists, just who might be great bets?
10 Sidney Prescott (Scream)
Thanks to her wit and survivalist instincts, Sidney Prescott managed to thwart not just the first iteration of Ghostface in the first Scream film, but rather five entire films. Moreover, given the addition of Ghostface in Dead by Daylight, it makes sense of Sidney to make her debut in the game as well.
Ghostface targets Sidney for a variety of reasons. For instance, some iterations of Ghostface have personal vendettas against Sidney. In another instance, a Ghostface wanted Sidney dead since she survived the original film. As a survivalist by nature, Sidney can have unique survivalist Perks in Dead by Daylight. Her experience with slashers may imbue her with trap sense, or even a unique dodge ability.
9 Ellen Ripley (Alien)
Ellen Ripley of the Alien franchise proves no alien (in this case, Xenomorph) can outshine sheer human courage, ingenuity, and will to live. And while her daughter Amanda stars in the recent Alien: Isolation game, Ellen is no pushover. As a warrant officer, Ellen continuously shows she’s just as skilled as her male companions aboard the Nostromo as they face the threat of the Xenomorph.
In Dead by Daylight, Ellen Ripley can give Survivors a much-needed edge even without futuristic weapons and tech. Her sense of professionalism and duty, on top of her military training, can equip Ripley with Unique Perks related to these skills. Perhaps Ripley can leave fewer Scratch marks, or even ignore a few lethal blows.
8 Evelyn Abbott (A Quiet Place)
In the post-apocalyptic setting of A Quiet Place, Evelyn Abbott is one of the few humans living quiet lives. And quite literally, as the sightless aliens that have ravaged Earth hunt their prey with their hypersensitive hearing. As such, Evelyn and her family communicate via American Sign Language. Unfortunately, Evelyn’s motherly instincts and resourcefulness are tested when the creatures set their sights on her and her family.
In Dead by Daylight, Evelyn can bring her resourcefulness and her skill in staying quiet to the team. Having developed a keen sense of survival, Evelyn as a Survivor can have unique Perks that reduce her noise, aura, and Scratch marks to avoid detection.
7 Chris Washington (Get Out)
Jordan Peele’s Get Out showed his remarkable talent in writing horror. In this film, meeting a girlfriend’s family becomes a terribly wrong idea. Chris, an African-American photographer finds himself fighting for survival while uncovering a conspiracy his white girlfriend Rose and her family are involved in.

Get Out received critical acclaim for its take on social issues while at the same time creating a more relatable protagonist. In the film, Chris is shown relying on his instincts, calling the authorities as soon as he got the chance and trying to counter the many “strategies” his pursuers are using against him. In Dead by Daylight, Chris may have unique Perks that help him use environmental elements much easier or even improve his trap detection.
6 Leon (Midnight Meat Train)
2008 film The Midnight Meat Train can perhaps contain one of the most surprising horror plot twists out there. In the film, photographer Leon investigates Mahogany, a butcher he suspects is a serial killer. His investigation leads him to the last subway train travelling in the night. To his horror, this train contains hanged bodies on meathooks. Leon begins as a protagonist but eventually dons the butcher’s mantle, as the ending reveals Mahogany has been killing victims so reptilian creatures he’s serving don’t randomly attack subway riders.
Despite Leon’s contested morality, Dead by Daylight can certainly end up being an interesting Survivor. For instance, much of his Perks can reflect his eventual “transition” to a Killer with improved trap sense. He may also be able to “track” Killers and use this information to hide better.
5 Erin Harson (You’re Next)
Not all horror movie protagonists become quick-witted in the brink of death. In You’re Next, Erin finds herself in trouble when a group of masked murderers start terrorizing her and her boyfriend’s family in their home after she’s gone for a visit. Unfortunately for the killers, Erin was raised around survivalists, so she remains calculated and calm throughout the entire ordeal. With the help of some weapons and improvised traps, Erin easily flipped the table against her assailants.
In Dead by Daylight, Erin can specialize in flipping the table against Killers. Her unique Perks may include setting traps that can hinder Killers in their tracks.
4 Kirsty Cotton (Hellraiser)
The Hellraiser films revolve around the Cenobites, extradimensional beings who feed on human souls after being summoned by the Lament Configuration, a mysterious puzzle box. Throughout the series, the box ends up in the hands of many individuals. Unfortunately, those unfortunate enough usually end up subjected to the Cenobites’ rather intimate fascination with sadomasochism.

Interestingly, Kirsty Cotton remains a protagonist and recurring character across the series. Moreover, her wits and quick thinking helped her outwit the Cenobites time and time again. In Dead by Daylight, she can use her wit and intelligence to aid other Survivors. Additionally, she may get Perks that can speed up her Generator repair, among other intelligence-reliant tasks.
3 R.J. MacReady (The Thing)
R.J. MacReady perhaps serves as one of the smartest and most resourceful horror protagonists in popular culture. His quick wit and analysis skills have been put to use in 1982’s The Thing. Moreover, he managed to take the lead amongst a group of scientists as an alien has begun killing and assimilating them. In fact, he’s the one who figured out a way to lure out the creature, as its blood will most likely react to fire.
In Dead by Daylight, R.J. MacReady can bring his resourcefulness to benefit the Survivors. His familiarity with dealing with monsters might give him Perks that help him fix Generators faster or even disable traps.
2 Marybeth Dunston (Hatchet)
2006 slasher film Hatchet follows the style of slasher flicks such as Friday the 13th, where this time a group of tourists in a “haunted swamp” get hunted by a supernatural entity. In the film, Marybeth finds herself and her companions in a swamp in New Orleans. This time, they’re being hunted by the vengeful entity known as Victor Crowley.
However, unlike other protagonists, Marybeth finds herself crafty, active, and resilient. And despite tragedy happening throughout the course of the films, Marybeth finds herself coming after Crowley with no holds barred. In Dead by Daylight, Perks might reflect Marybeth’s resilience and no-nonsense attitude, which may include some handy detection or evasion benefits.
1 Gale Weathers (Scream)
Interestingly, while Ghostface is already present in Dead by Daylight, the Scream franchise attendees won’t be complete without Sidney and Gale. Unlike sole survivor Sidney, Gale Weathers is an ambitious reporter with more than enough bravery to pursue the Ghostface phenomenon. As such, unlike the other Survivors here, Gale might go head-first into catching these Killers and writing about them. Interestingly, this might make her quite the charming Survivor.
After all, Gale’s sheer bravery and resourcefulness as a journalist might be reflected with her Perks. Since she might head “straight into the action,” Gale might have Perks related to finding traps. Moreover, she might give Killers a much-needed debuff - as they all might wonder why a reporter would head straight for them instead of away from them.
