The first five installments of the Deathstroke: Knight and Dragons shorts were initially released on CW Seed, a production arm that provides original content for digital platforms with a focus on animation, game shows, and more. Now, Warner Bros. Animation has assembled Deathstroke: Knight and Dragons as a feature-length movie with roughly 50 minutes of never-before-seen footage.

In the new Deathstroke: Knight and Dragons clip, fans learn that Rose Wilson, the daughter of the titular mercenary, has been recruited by the terrorist organization known as H.I.V.E. and ascended to the rank of queen. The new preview also explores her backstory, revealing that she grew up on the streets alone after her mother’s death and indicates that Deathstroke was never aware of his daughter’s existence.
In the comics, Deathstroke was sent to rescue and eventually fell in love with a Cambodian clan Princess named Lillian Worth. However, Lillian never told Deathstroke she was pregnant and kept the identity of Rose’s father a secret from her.
Deathstroke has been a fan-favorite character ever since his debut in The New Teen Titans #2 in December 1980. While the deadly mercenary has played a supporting role in DC’s live-action film and television projects, including Justice League and Titans, fans will likely be thrilled to see Deathstroke get the spotlight in the company’s latest animated feature. The arrival of the animated feature may be exactly what fans needed, especially now that The CW has delayed the return of its superhero shows until 2021.
Of course, Deathstroke has also been given his due in DC video games, particularly as an adversary to Batman in the Arkham series. However, some fans are probably still a little sore about the scrapped plans for Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke being the main adversary of the now-canceled Batman film after Ben Affleck stepped away from the project and director Matt Reeves decided to take the story in a new direction. Now, Robert Pattinson will take over the role of the caped crusader alongside Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
Deathstroke: Knight and Dragons: The Movie is now available digitally and will be released on Blu-ray on August 18, 2020.
