Krypto the Superdog and Ace the Bathound lead the upcoming DC League of Super-Pets, along with Chip the Squirrel, Merton the Turtle, and PB the pig. The team is made up of classic super-powered animals, some of which have been remixed in interesting ways to fit the new canon. Though almost all of these animals do have comic book roots, there are tons of other bizarre animal characters in DC’s canon that fans want to see more of.

Adopted by the Batman family in 2012, this animal may lack any sort of superpower, but that just makes her fit in better amongst her new keepers. Bat-Cow, also known as the Battlin’ Bovine, is a cow that Damian Wayne rescued from a slaughterhouse and adopted as his own. Batman and Robin keep the kind creature in a barn on Wayne Manor’s massive landscape.

Bat-Cow was set to be part of a large-scale mind control scheme by Talia al Ghul’s Leviathan Organization. The evil political outfit intended to poison Gotham’s food with mind control chemicals via a popular fast-food chain. Batman took Bat-Cow for testing in order to dismantle that evil plot, and Robin became attached. Robin’s friendship with Bat-Cow led the young ward to embrace vegetarianism. The heroes presumably watch over her to this day, and she’s popped up in TV shows like Teen Titans GO!.

Mild-mannered cat Dexter once lived happily with his owner, a young single woman. One night, his owner was brutally murdered during a home invasion, while the feline was helpless to protect her. As the police arrived to investigate the murder, they tossed Dexter to the wilds without concern, leaving him to wander the woods. Dexter was picked up by a pair of malevolent kids, who wrapped him up in a burlap sack and tossed him into a nearby river. Overwhelmed with anger, Dexter cried out, and his rage was heard by the Red Lantern Corps leader Atrocitus. The immensely powerful alien granted Dexter the power of the Red Lantern, which he used to avenge himself upon the hoodlums who’d almost drowned him.

Dex-Starr, as he would now be known, has the powers of a Red Lantern. Fueled by rage, just as Green Lantern is fueled by willpower, Dex-Starr is an excellent minor villain. A furious creature from humble origins, gifted astounding power. Dex-Starr would make a great addition to an evil Super-Pets team.

Rex Mason, AKA Metamorpho, AKA Element Man’s animal companion is Element Dog. Once a normal dog, E-dog was exposed to the immensely powerful Orb of Ra by the previous Element Man, Algo. E-dog has the intelligence of a dog and the power of a deity, which he thankfully uses for the greater good. Like his owner, he can change the fundamental chemical makeup of anything he can perceive. From the atomic structure of the air around him to the state of his own body, E-dog can alter almost anything. Once briefly robbed of his power, Mason kindly went out of his way to get the Orb back into E-dog’s space and give him back the absurd abilities he wields

Element Dog is an adorable design and a lovable character. While most powerful animals gain some level of advanced intelligence, E-dog’s simple personality makes him a ton of fun.

Jumpa didn’t make a ton of appearances in this early iteration and was subsequently forgotten by most of the comic book public. Surprisingly, however, Jumpa reappeared last year as a Wonder Woman mount. Jumpa doesn’t have much in the way of personality, but a kangaroo who can fly is a solid design for any generation.

Though not around as often these days, Aquaman’s trusty steed is an important part of the character’s legacy. Storm is a gargantuan seahorse who serves as a mount for Aquaman as he rules over the sea. His appearances in the comics were never all that common; instead, his heyday was in the late 60s Super Friends cartoons.

Storm has rarely been seen without Aquaman, but as another trusty mount, he could be a helpful aquatic member of the Super-Pets team. He also represents an era of the DC continuity that is often more made fun of than appreciated. Storm is a charming design that could stand out as a rare nod to the era and character who once brought him to prominence.
